In the past few hours the Put (Ministry of Economic Development) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Italian post that will allow to join the Wi-Fi network present in the post offices with the network Wi-Fi Italy managed by Infratel Italia S.p.A., the public company that operates in the telecommunications sector on behalf of the department chaired by Stefano Patuanelli.
The purpose of this integration at the infrastructure level is to allow the citizens of the Peninsula to connect to the Internet completely free of charge at any post office equipped with a Wi-FI access network using a dedicated application. This App in turn takes the name of "WiFi Italia" and is available for both Android and iOS.
The initiative was developed within the framework of the project Piazza Wi-Fi Italia for which 45 million euros have been allocated. The Italian Municipalities already registered on the platform would today be 2,574 of which 1,048 with a population of less than 2 thousand inhabitants, for the moment Infratel has activated 261 Municipalities and a further 120 will be active by November.
As planned in the calendar, and with a view to accelerating the project, open tenders would have already been awarded for the procurement of the equipment and services necessary for the installation of hotspots. WiFi Italia will be able to identify the latter throughout the national territory by providing connectivity every time the signal is detected.
The agreement with Poste Italiane, which has thousands of offices spread across the entire boot, will therefore make it possible to have additional hotspots for connection to the network. The aim of Piazza Wifi Italia is in fact to offer coverage as complete as possible. possible within the next year, even in smaller population centers.
