The appointment with the 2020 US Presidential Elections is getting closer and closer and the platforms operating in the advertising market will probably be closely monitored to sanction any abuse, but not all the players in this sector are willing to take on the risks of a new scandal like the one that, at the time, involved Facebook is Cambridge Analytica.
Among the latter is Twitter whose co-founding CEO, Jack Dorsey, would have already announced that he wanted to ban election advertising from the social network. Candidates, movements and political parties that support them will not be able to purchase advertising space and extensive checks will be carried out so that no one can get around this prohibition.
The decision of the Twitter Site will certainly have a significant impact on the future US electoral campaign, partly because Twitter is considered the "political" social network par excellence (also in Italy) and partly because, as is known, it is the media preferred by the current White House tenant to disseminate his press releases.
We've made the decision to stop all political advertising on Twitter globally. We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought. Why? A few reasons … ??

The initiative will cover all the locations of the service, including the Peninsula, it will still be possible to continue to publish political tweets, also in support of the candidates, but the hope of Dorsey and partners is that the democratic online comparison is not altered by content published for a fee and therefore more easily communicated.
Twitter gives up so one of the most remunerative segments of the advertising sector, at the same time stresses the importance of attracting "real" followers to their accounts. During the next elections, only those with a large audience will be able to make their voices heard, at least on this platform.
